The first Ford commercial vehicle to be introduced to the UK was in 1908 when the Ford Model T lorry was imported from the US. In 1911 UK production of the Ford Model T began in Manchester and from then the commercial range went from strength to strength. More and more vehicles and adaptions as well as their trims and options have become available of the many that have been introduced. In 1955 the iconic Ford Transit first rolled off of the production line in Berkshire in what was to mark the beginning of a mass production of a very popular vehicle. As the typical white van and an extremely popular passenger vehicle more than 600k of these vehicles are now produced every year.
The Ford Transit range in itself is bigger than some manufacturers’ entire van ranges with the Ford Transit Connect, Courier, Custom DCIV and the Transit and its many conversions including the heavyweight and robust Tipper, Dropside and Luton. To add to this range is the popular Ford Fiesta, the smallest van in the range, and the pick-up truck - the Ford Ranger. With such a large range Ford has long been one of the major contenders in the commercial market alongside manufacturers like Vauxhall and Volkswagen and their extensive ranges.
The Ford Transit was always made here in the UK and continued to be produced here until 2013 when production was moved to Turkey. Despite this the Transit remains a very British vehicle and an extremely popular choice amongst tradesmen who have used the van as their trusted companion for decades – in fact it is the Ford Transit that has coined the phrase ‘white van man’
The Transit is available in many customisations and models with an extensive choice of wheelbases, roof heights, lengths and trims. In fact you can tailor the Transit to pretty much whatever you need it for whether that is to transport a heavy load or to carry around passengers for pleasure.
Ford are continuously working hard to improve their engines to ensure that they produce a better fuel economy and less CO2 emissions without compromising on the power needed for the demands placed on them. In fact the Ford range consists of such well-built and robust vehicles that the awards and accolades just keep coming. In 2014 the Ford van range won awards including What Car Van of the Year with the Ford Fiesta winning the small van category. In the 2013-2014 period it won more than 25 awards.

To ensure the driver stays in control whilst on the move there are handy technical facilities that allow for hands free technology and controls that can be operated from the steering wheel. Cruise control with speed limiter means that the driver can travel long distances without worrying that they will exceed the speed limit in unfamiliar areas. Ford SYNC technology has recently undergone enhancement and the vans now use version number 3. For uncomplicated technology that provides everything the user needs Ford have certainly thought of the driver. From syncing your phone to making voice activated calls to having your text messages read aloud to you, now you can operate whilst on the go. Apps can be connected, music can be streamed from programmes like Spotify and the system can be upgraded from the wi-fi in your house when parked outside.
It is safe to say that Ford are a big contender in the commercial van market and that they provide everything an business could need from small urban deliveries to more heavyweight removals and load transit.
