Cliché car modifications you should avoid

Added: 20 February 2018

Nothing beats driving down the road and turning heads as you fly by but you don’t want to be grabbing people’s attention for the wrong reasons. It’s nice having a car that stands out and has a personal touch which is why so many car enthusiasts often add after-market modifications. We’ve put together a few clichés to avoid so you don’t overdo it.

Huge Spoiler

Far too often, drivers will get a new car and immediately start to strap things to it in hopes of looking like an F1 driver or an underground street racer. Spoilers are commonly added to the backs of cars in hopes of attaining this look. In many cases, the aerodynamic properties of spoilers aren’t even considered and they are used purely for aesthetics.

Go-faster stripes

Although it would be a miracle if paint strips could make a car travel faster, unfortunately, they have no such power. Racing stripes do have their place in car modification but they aren’t always the best way to go for every vehicle. For example, if you’re driving an estate car, stripes probably wouldn’t suit it very well.

Neon lights

This is another after-market modification that was inspired by action films like Fast & Furious and racing games like Need for Speed. Unfortunately, the real world versions of these types of mods are rarely as impressive. Neon lights can either add a unique design to your car or can bring attention to a poorly modified car done incorrectly. If you do decide to add neon lights, be sure to look up the laws and ensure you aren’t doing anything illegal.

Giant exhaust pipes

This is another type of modification that can look ok if it matches the rest of the car and isn’t too flamboyant. Unfortunately, many drivers and car enthusiasts choose to install giant exhaust pipes that look out of place on cars that barely have any other similar modifications.

Stickers and Decals

If you’re a professional driver and you have a series of official sponsors, by all means, cover your contest car with stickers and logos. But if the only driving you do is to get to work or drop the kids off at school, there’s really no need to stick decals all over your paint job.

Luckily, there’s no need to make any changes to the range of high-end vehicles available at Leasewell. Browse the selection today and find the car that’s perfect for you.
